Some of you may know that I like to make jewellery and have an online store under the brand name Chic Infinity. Unfortunately, in recent months, the shop has fallen to the wayside as I’ve been dedicating all my efforts to my full time job and of course, this blog. Well, since I’m officially banned from shopping in a pact that I made with ShoeGeek, I was inspired this weekend to recreate a piece of jewellery that I am coveting, the Vera Wang asymmetric pearl necklace.

I decided to create something similar but not as extravagant as I’d like it to be wearable every day. With weight being a key factor in the making of this necklace, I had to forgo the lovely Japanese glass pearl beads that I normally use and use the inferior plastic beads which are so so much lighter. Three hours and a couple hundred beads later, this is the result. I’m still not quite happy with it and am thinking if I should add another strand of beads to it to tangle it up a bit more but the beauty of DIY is that I can wear what I’ve made for now and add more when I’m bored. Amazingly easy to make and without the US$650 price tag. Perfect for a Geek on a budget.

I've only gone through maybe half of NYFW, and less than none of LFW, but it's already clear that a few of last season's developing trends are here to stay. I'll be doing a daily trend alert this week so you guys can keep up with what's going on from the comfort of your own computer. There are also a couple of new must-have items we're seeing. I've also decided to upload the shots from my phone so that they're probably labelled, how intelligent of me! I can also zoom into items as I see fit, and hopefully you, the reader, will benefit from the experience as well. Now, onto the trend watch...

I absolutely love big chunky statement jewellery and I do mean big, hey look at me kind of jewellery. Although I am over the term ‘statement’ piece. Everything from a two strand pewter chain to really over the top pieces are now labelled as statement and we really need to come up with another term for it. Anyway, I digress. It is with a great squeal of glee that I check out the Spring/Summer collections and find some pieces that I absolutely adore. Here are some that made it on FashionGeek’s wish list (with more to come I’m sure)
Let's start with the above necklace from 3.1 Phillip Lim. Is it a collar? Is it made out of origami? Who cares. I want.

Check out the giant beads from Michael Kors. I do hope they are resin and not glass. It must be heavy yet I will risk neck pains for that piece.

Necklaces down to the waist are always so hot. You can always double strand it, or multi-strand it as a bracelet but Oscar de la Renta keeps it simple here.

Every girl dreams of the big fancy wedding, the immaculate white gown, the fantabulous diamond ring and walking down the aisle to wed the man of her dreams. I was born without that gene. I dream of sitting on the couch with a big bag of Burger King chips (yes Burger King chips, discovered them in Taipei, sooo good), watching reruns of Friends until the end of eternity, laptop in my lap so I can surf the net and shop online and blog about what a loser I am for doing all of the above until the end of eternity.

Of course, I don’t know if it’s that dreaded biological clock, but lately I’ve been dreaming about sitting, gorging, surfing, shopping and blogging… with a big diamond rock on my hand. I’m still nowhere near excited for the Big Day, but for some bizarre reason, I’ve found myself very intrigued by online wedding ring designer programmes. Last week, I even found myself googling Wang gowns (Vera, not Alex). Eek! Yet I find myself very aroused by the perfect princess cut… and the perfect setting… and the perfect carat wattage… and I don’t even like carrots.

The thing is, I’m starting to see the whole concept as more of a style opportunity (one day, one ring, one dress, one well-dressed man for the rest of your life…) which is making the whole situation much more palatable. Especially with this kind of arsenal by my side… I mean, it could be just regular jewellery for a regular day. And a regular gown for a regular day. Nothing to worry about, right?

I wonder if this post is going to get my perfect partner (who has been perfectly patient) excited? Down, boy!
