Twitter Tips: Winter Comfort Food

After a scorching and humid summer, the weather is finally cooling down. This week, we ask you what your favourite comfort food is in HK and where to get them? Mine is Mac and Cheese.. I'm still on the quest to find the perfect one tho. Pictures above from Times Square's 798 and SEVVA.

Nikko at Night

The Hotel Nikko isn't exactly at the top of everyone's list of favourite hotels -- I can't even remember the last time I went -- but if there's anything that can convince a gal to trek across a harbour, it's chocolate. And when you throw a bit of booze into the mix, it usually only increases that powerful, body-of-water-crossing aphrodisiac. Just make sure you have a ride home. (We blog like no one lives in Kowloon. That is the sad and sheltered life we lead. Sorry Kowloonies, we know you are regular people too, just "location-impaired.")

First off, speaking of location, the perks of going to Kowloon include the fact that you get to look at Hong Kong island. So the Sky Lounge at Hotel Nikko, with its harbourside spot, is an apt place to sip fancy cocktails as you watch the sun set and transition from day to glittering night.

The new roster of choco-cocktails kick off with the Chocolateini, a mix of vodka, crème de white cacao and dry vermouth.

There's the Choco Dance, which combines vodka, crème de dark cacao, crème de banana, fresh milk and banana.

The rosy-hued Sweet Cocoa throws together vodka, crème de white cacao, fresh milk and raspberry purée.

And the final in the quartet, the sinful Melting Kiss is made up of crème de white cacao, Bailey’s Irish cream, green peppermint liqueur and fresh milk

Geek Spy: Fledgling Wine

Twitter is expanding its reaches besides being a social medium for connecting people, getting news and generally a forum for Bieber bashing. Partnering with Crushpad, a winemaker in California, Twitter has launched its own wine titled appropriately enough Fledgling Wine. Two vintages have been issued a 2009 Chardonnay and a 2009 Pinot Noir, which according to the FAQ on the site, appears to be an excellent vintage in California, potentially one of the best of the decade. There is a charitable element to this where US$5 from each bottle sold is donated to Room to Read, an organization that battle illiteracy. So why this foray into the wine industry? From the mouths of the cofounders behind Twitter:

“The Fledgling Initiative embodies two things that are at the core of Twitter's mission: providing access to information and highlighting the power of open communication to bring about positive change. This initiative is just one piece of that approach. Take part in this mission and pre-buy our limited bottles of the wine. You can follow along with our wine-making activities on Twitter and at some points even participate in its creation. For each bottle you buy, $5 will be donated to Room to Read, a transformational non-profit that brings books, libraries and ultimately literacy to people in the poorest areas around the world. The efforts of Room to Read will benefit literacy, and in doing so they'll allow Twitter to grow. Because if you can't read you can't Tweet!”

Maybe I’ve been drinking the Kool-Aid but that seems to actually make some sense to me.

P.S. It wasn’t deliberate on my part to write three bird related posts in a row, Angry Bird stuffed toys, Chicken Battle and now this.

iPhone Show & Tell: Chicken Battle

Yesterday I was telling you about how writing about Angry Birds plushies reminded me of an iPhone game to introduce to you and here it is. Chicken Battle is like the adorable if slightly inferior little brother of Plants vs Zombies . Still curiously addictive but like PvZ, not too challenging. Though the cute graphics kinda makes it worth spending the whole day playing the game just to find out what other types of chickies there are. The game doesn't offer as many levels and variety as PvZ and be prepared for having to do some grinding and leveling up for the harder stages. All in all not bad for a casual strategy game. It was free when I downloaded it over the weekend but I believe it's now back to US$0.99. Check out the lite version for a preview.

Getting Dumped: Lanvin x H&M

The meaning of this title is twofold: firstly, that I am simply dumping this image orgy of Lanvin X H&M images on you because words cannot do justice; secondly, that if you just got dumped, having the ex see you all fabbed out in some crazy hot Lanvin x H&M is sort of the perfect revenge... or at the very least will allow you to feel good about yourself, if your ex is not some fashion-obsessed person. In which case, you're better off without him or her, no?

Anyway... on to the full set of lookbook pics.
