On the Case

So following up on the post about the Incase Convertible Book Jacket, I’m here to introduce you to a series of designer iPad (and in one instance, Kindle) cases. Louis Vuitton was the first to jump onto the bandwagon by announcing their design (which consists of stamping the ubiquitous LV logo all over a case) and then teasing us by saying it won’t be released for some time. Then Gucci leapt on board by giving us the finished product in a rather similar design. During the 2011 Resort presentation, one of the models in the Oscar de la Renta show whipped out her iPad, also encased. And Diane von Furstenberg is obviously more of a book geek as she just released a Kindle case. Who else would we like to see show their techy side? Vivienne Tam would be an obvious choice but given her affiliation with HP, I’m not sure how feasible that would be. And is it worrisome that I am pondering over which case I should invest in considering I’ve yet to buy the iPad?

FIFA Fever

Every four years, Hong Kong is set ablaze with World Cup Fever that is pretty much an extended disco remix of the Rugby 7s except everyone has to party throughout the entire month and stay up late watching all the matches. I've decided to be good this year and only watch the matches where the teams I am rooting for win. (Which teams does a Geek root for? The ones who have the hottest players of course.) Anyway, here's a little known fact for you. Did you know that the World Cup trophy is encased in a Louis Vuitton trunk? It opens on two sides for ease of access to the 14-inch-high, 18-carat-gold trophy and is fitted with a pocket on its long side to hold white gloves. The case will be shown to the public for the first time when the trophy is ready to be given to the Cup's winning team on July 11th. What does it say about me that I care more about the case holding the trophy than the trophy itself?

Bag Lady: Louis Vuitton Raindrop Besace Trash Bag Purses

Everyone's been talking about the Louis Vuitton Trash Bag purses raving how about innovative and cutting edge their designs are going. Certainly, they are moving in a new direction but I can't quite decide how I feel about this bag. It almost feels like a satirical Anya Hindmarch I'm not a Plastic Bag bag. What do you think? Do you like it? Hate it?

Bunny Hop

With Halloween coming up, I wonder how many fashion vixens are going to use the excuse to rock bunny ears in a costume? They've always been popular as an accessory to a Playboy bunny costume (and isn't Halloween an excuse to slut it out anyway), but with Louis Vuitton and Maison Michel ears making the rounds, it's almost too good to resist.

But McQueen took the bunny ear theme and hopped on over to the next logical part of this evolution -- bunny ears shaped from nature's own material, your good old mane of hair. Although arguably, those twin peaks resemble more than just ears... but do excuse me, I read a lot of Freud in college. *retrieves mind from depths of gutter*

LV Live

I love it when brands utilise social media. There’s still a distinct lack of respect for online media in Hong Kong but in the past two years, online has really blossomed. Luxury brand Louis Vuitton is clearly embracing the online platform and for the first time ever, they will be doing a live broadcast of their Spring/Summer 2010 ready to wear collection on Facebook. Fans will be able to check out Marc Jacobs’ latest creations via a live stream from Paris Fashion Week on October 7 2009 8:30pm Hong Kong time. Following the event, the video of the show will be available on demand exclusively on the fan page for 24 hours. Visit www.facebook.com/louisvuitton for more info. Louis Vuitton can also be found on Twitter www.twitter.com/LouisVuitton_HQ.
