Crowning Glory

I feel that I should start a Hello Kitty column dedicated to the random products that she's affiliated with. On my daily trawl of interesting things to bring you, I discovered that Hello Kitty is continuing to dominate the consumer market and the latest is a combination of a beverage (nope, not the wine that she’s not making) and Swarovski crystals (which she’s been fond of in the past). This time, she’s joined forces with Fillico, a company that specialises in making branded water from a spring in Kobe, to bring you bottled water that showcases Swarvoski crystal accents and crown-shaped toppers. The different colour for each bow represents a different trait: yellow for "heartful," pink for "cute," lavender for "sweet," green for "wish," and red for "friendship.” (Is it me or is that ambiguous in a typically Japanese way?) Water doesn’t come cheap though, each bottle retails for US$100. Available here.

When a Kitty Becomes a Cat

If you were in Hong Kong a few years back, you’d remember that there was a Hello Kitty café near Sogo in Causeway Bay that was pretty popular. I’d always wondered how that works. Hello Kitty doesn’t have a mouth so the food that they offer can’t be stellar. Well, now I’ve got another mystery on my hands. Continuing her quest for world domination where it’s not enough that she has theme parks, themed hospitals, anti-virus software, a Diamond Collection perfume, Hello Kitty is launching her own wine, four different types in fact. The product’s tagline says it all – “Our favorite girl has grown up!”

The wines are produced and bottled in Italy by the family-run Tenimenti Castelrotto or "Torti" vineyards. The four wines are the Angel and Devil Pinot Neros, Brut Rose, and a demi-sec Sweet Pink sparkling wine. The packaging is of course pink with Hello Kitty embarking on some cosplay such as cupid and devil getups as well as high heels and a pink leopard like costume.

Prices range from US$19.99 to US$29.99. Available at the Hello Kitty Wines website come May 1st.

Here Kitty, Kitty

You’ve undoubtedly seen all the Hello Kitty celebrations around town as the ubiquitous cat without a mouth celebrates its 35th birthday. Come November, the Kitty will launch the Hello Kitty Diamond Eau de Toilette. Not sure what separates it from some of the other Hello Kitty fragrances available but it’s pitched as a masterpieces that blends “refreshing top notes of freesia, bergamot, grapefruit and daisy; with floral middle notes of jasmine, muguet, rose and violet with base notes of musk, amber, sandalwood and vanilla.” The fragrance comes in a sculpted 3D crystal decanter with a sparkling dress.

Each bottle comes with its own manufacturing number and a charity auction will be held for the first bottle on November 17 at the Times Square Lane Crawford. All proceeds go to the Make A Wish Foundation.
