Branded

Here I was thinking "damn I forgot to put up a blog post last night, better do a quick one covertly from work" and then I promptly forgot about the issue and decided to open my mail instead while fretting about the fact that I completely forgot the Chanel show is in two hours and I'm wearing no makeup and no jewellery and... flats. Thank God I keep a pair of heels in the office. And then I noticed a Chanel envelope amid the fray and thought it might be a follow-up notice, reminding me to RSVP to the show, or perhaps notifying a change of location.

Et voila! Insta-jewellery!
Two sheets of the Chanel temporary tattoos were included, which were used in the Spring 2010 show, as well as a disc of images showing the models sporting them. Jewellery? Check. Blog post topic? Check. And this is, dear readers, probably the most economical Chanel bling you will ever purchase -- $550 for 55 patterns, or $10 a tat. Available at boutiques from the end of this week.
Now that's what I call branding.

ETA: Decided not to go to the show. Giant chin zits marring my ability to be seen in public. So the tat application will have to wait!
Diversionary Tactics

Some say fashion is a type of armour against the world, but I don't think that those people had this in mind. The lovely Nicola sent us this crazy concept ensemble by artist Tetsuya Noguchi paying homage to the classic brand Chanel. For some reason, I have this image in my head of that scene from Glee, when the football team does the routine from the Single Ladies music video to distract the opposition. How many samurais would stop in their tracks at the sight of this haute-couture outfit? Bear in mind that lots of samurai were apparently of the homosexual persuasion, and so it's more than likely they would worship at the altar of Chanel. Those bitchin' Maison Michel-esque bunny ears are pretty darn attention-grabbing as well -- paired with a runway strut a la Miss J Alexander, and the enemy doesn't have a chance.

Recall, dear readers, when I posted about the inspiration that Balmain's spring couture 2001 presentation has had on collections in the past few years (witting or unwitting)?
The pink cocoon returns... this time at the hands of Monsieur Lagerfeld for Chanel haute couture. Didn't I tell ya what goes around comes around?

Bear Necessities

Of all the frivolous things a person could own, one of the more frivolous (even more so than multiple Birkins, I'd say) is a designer teddy bear. Of course, it would seem that many people disagree with me, because I've come across more than one designer brand that's purveying soft toys in signature fabric. I'm hunched at the top of my bed because my wireless is not working and I have to steal from my insecure neighbour, so let me save my bandwidth for uploading photos. Lagerfeld, Missoni, Gucci and Rykiel: which teddy would adorn your bedside?

It’s a Green Green World

I love the colour green. I had always thought that blue was my favourite colour until ShoeGeek pointed out that all my accessories, clothing and what not tend to be green. Turns out, I’m not the only one. Chanel just launched their Christmas makeup collection last week and it has a decidedly green focus. The inspiration comes from a little golden cage owned by Mademoiselle Chanel which is set with turquoise stones encasing two tiny birds with emerald eyes and bodies of pearls who seem to be endlessly gabbing to each other.
Peter Philips, Global Creative Makeup Director of Chanel Makeup channels this inspiration into a duo of green powders and an exotic bird four-colour palette for the eyes, a glossy gold and pale pinks representing the cage for the lips and a halo of gold for the complexion as well as a pearly pink reminiscent of the bird’s body. Available at Chanel.

Subtly Halloween

For some reason, Honkers love their Halloweens. It’s one of those odd events where the whole town goes all out. In fact, some might say that Halloween is a bigger deal than Christmas. So if you head on out to LKF this Saturday, be ready to see some great costumes. And if you do see anything spectacular, take a picture and send it back to us. We’d love to do a post-Halloween roundup!
Some of us, however, aren’t too great at dressing up yet still want to get into the spirit of things and this post is for you. Below, find some items that will get you into the festive mood without going too over the top.

This is one of my favourite nail colours. Applies on very smoothly (but a bit prone to chipping so be sure to put on a top coat.) Looks black until that moment when it catches the light and a bit of blue-green shines through. At Chanel.

Bellini Spider & Net Pendant
I absolutely cannot stand spiders in real life but for some reason love spider or web jewellery. At YesStyle.

Topshop Cobweb Net Tights
Oh so hot. I’d wear this on a normal day just to give me that gothic edge. At Topshop.
