The Colour Purple

Great designers is one thing, but the other imperatives for a successful retail site are a good buyer and a good stylist. That is why, although sites like Shopbop and Yoox are great in theory, it takes a great big stretch of imagination to work out what would actually look really cool. Everything looks so generic sometimes.

A site that gets it right, however, is 80s Purple. I never knew I needed a chunky cocktail ring shaped like a panda, but I do now, even if it looks like the spawn of a Judith Leiber clutch. I never thought I'd be in the market for a gingham bubble skirt, but now it could be a worthy contender -- maybe it's the whole Christopher Kane reference, or maybe it's just giving good lookbook. A Wang-y black sheer-backed tuxedo romper that is freaking SOLD OUT in every size except XS is mocking me, simultaneously with its unavailability and about my own non petite-ness. There's a trompe l'oeil jersey empire waist slip-of-a-thing that looks identical to liquid leather... I want to bathe in it. Maxi dresses challenge the status quo (tropical print? Bah!) in ruffly plaid and even the best ever blushie nude. Graphic black-and-white prints demand their own glass case, I certainly would put them in a museum of art.

Oh, am I gushing? Fine, I shall let the photos do the talking. Uh.. get ready. I went a little overboard. I'm feeling greedy today.
